Transparent Inner Frame

The idea for this tutorial came from Joan L. of PSP Dynasty. After gaining her permission to use her idea and adding a few of my own touches this tutorial was created on January 25, 2003. Any likeliness to other tutorials on the Internet is purely coincidental. This tutorial was created using PSP 7.04, and assumes you have a working knowledge of PSP. The tutorial may work with previous editions with a few adjustments, but I cannot guarantee the same results. My tutorials are only basic guidelines to help you achieve a certain effect, please feel free to any creative liberties to achieve your effects.

You will need:
JASC's PSP (30 day free trial)- HERE
Andrews Filter 22- You can get it HERE
IMPORTANT NOTE: After you download this filter and put it in your plug-in folder you will need to convert it using PlugIn Commander.
This zip file containing glittergold pattern and a corner HERE.
You will need to extract the glittergold pattern to your Jasc Pattern folder, or for those that don't want to overload their pattern folder you can open the glittergold on your desktop, it will work either way, and the tube to where and how you use your tubes.
Graphic of your choice

To use this graphic right click on the graphic and save to your hard drive. If anyone knows where this graphic and the glittergold fill came from, please contact me so that proper credit can be given and/or permission can be obtained.

Step 1:
Open the graphic of your choice, duplicate it by selecting the Shift plus D key and close your original graphic.

Step 2:
Resize your image to 350 Pixels on the longest side. Then go to Effects/Sharpen/Sharpen.

Step 3:
Duplicate your image again and minimize this copy for now. We're going to need this later.

Step 4:
On your first copy of the image, go to layers and select "Promote to Layer".

Step 5:
Go to Effects/Plug-in Filters/Andrew's Filter's 22 and select the "Rotation and Resize". Apply the default settings.
Red Angle = 15; Green Angle = 15; Blue Angle = 15; Red Size = 19; Green Size = 19; Blue Size = 19; Random = 201
Select OK.

Step 6:
Go to Selections/Select All. Then go to Selections/Modify/Contract and contract by 25 pixels. Hit your delete key. Do NOT Deselect.

Step 7:
Go to Selections/Modify/Contract and contract by 5 pixels. Do NOT Deselect

Step 8:
Go to Layers/Add New Raster Layer. The go to Selections/Invert. Select your floodfill icon, setting your foreground to pattern and selecting the glittergold fill: Scale 100; Angle 0; floodfill the selection. Do NOT Deselect. Then go to Layers/Arrange/Move Down to move Layer 2 below Layer 1. Do NOT Deselect.

Step 9:
On your layer palette, click on Layer 1 to make it active Go to Effects/3D Effects/Inner Bevel and apply with the following settings:
Bevel = 1/4 pie; Width = 10; Smoothness = 40; Depth = 2; Ambience = 0; Shininess = 10; Color = White; Angle = 315; Intensity = 50; Elevation = 30

Step 10:
Go to Selections/Invert and you should now have the "marching ints" surrounding the area that was deleted earlier. Add a new raster layer. Do NOT Deselect.

Step 11:
Activate your minimized image and go to Edit/Copy, then back to your working image Edit/Paste/Paste Into Selection. Do NOT Deselect. On Your Layer Palette, lower the Opacity on Layer 3 to 70. Do NOT Deselect.

Step 12:
Go to Selections/Float (this will make the inner portion darker for now). Go to Effects/3D Effects/Cutout with the following settings:
Horizontal and Vertical = 2; Opacity = 80; Blur = 20; Shadow Color = black; Fill with Interior Color = UNchecked.

Reapply changing your veritcal and horizontal to a minus 2. Now Deselect

Step 13:
Go to Layers/Merge/Merge All Flatten.

Step 14:
Making sure your background is set to white, go to Image/Add Borders and add a 10 Symmetrical Border.

Step 15:
Select the white border with your magic wand and floodfill with the glittergold. Go to Selections/Invert and the Effects/3D Effects/Cutout and apply the same two cutouts as used previous. Selections/Select None.

Step 16:
You can dress up the corners with brushes, the corner tube I provided or one of your own, review the main image for placement.

Step 19:
Resize for Group requirement postings, Sharpen/Sharpen and your done. :))


The final image is yours to do with as you choose, as long as it's not for monetary values or for commercial purposes, however; the tutorial is copyrighted by me, please do not copy and paste to any other internet groups without express written consent from me.
