Spiderweb Frame

This tutorial was created on April 24, 2002 and is of my own doing. Any likeness to other tutorials is purely coincidental. This tutorial was written in PSP 7.04, but I'm sure with some adaptations, it can be done in PSP6.


You will need:

JASC's PSP (30 day free trial)- You can get it HERE
DSB Flux Filter- You can get it HERE
**Note you will need to download the DSB Flux Filter, extract to a separate folder and run the setup program.

Graphic of your choice

Step 1:
Open the graphic of your choice, duplicate by selecting the Shift plus D key and close your original graphic.

Step 2:
Resize your image to 350 Width on Longest side. Then go to Effects/Sharpen/Sharpen

Step 3:
Duplicate your image and minimize for now. We're going to need this later.

Step 4:
On your first copy of the image, go to Image/Blur/Gaussian Blur and set Radius to 40.

Step 5:
Go to Effects/Plugin Filter/DSB Flux/Spider Web with the following settings:
Rays = 46
Rings = 1
Merge = 50.

Apply the Spider Web again.

Step 6:
Go to Layers/Promote to Layer

Step 7:
Click on your Selection tool. In your tool options use the following settings: Set to Circle, Feather = 0, Antialias checked.

Step 8:
Starting in the middle of your image draw a circle to just slightly past the edge of the ring in the middle of your image. Hit your delete key. Do not deselect.

Step 9:
Activate your minimized image, Go to Edit/Copy, now make your first image active and go to Edit/Paste/Paste into Selection. Do not deselect.

Step 10:
Go to Effects/Plugin Filters/Eyecandy 4000 and select the Cutout with the following settings:
Direction = 315
Distance = 10.80
Blur = 14.64
Opacity = 44
Keep Original Image is checked

Step 11:
Go to Effects/Plugin Filters/Eyecandy 4000 and select the Bevel Boss with the following settings:
Settings = Carve and Bevel Combo
On the Basic Tab:Bevel Width = 16.15, Height Scale = 14, Smoothness = 77; Bevel Placement: Inside the Marquee, Darken Deep Areas = 0, Shade Interior: Checked.
On the Lighting Tab: Lighting Direction = 135, Inlination = 45, Highlight Brightness = 100, Highlight Size = 14, Highlight Color: White, Shadow Color: Black. Selections/Select None.

Step 12:
Go to Layers and Merge/Merge All Flatten

Step 13:
Pick a complimentary color from your picture for background. Go to Image/Add Borders and add a Symmetrical 8 border. Selection your magic wand with the following settings: Matchmode: RGB Value, Tolerance 0, Feather 0, Sample Merge Unchecked. Select your border then go to Effects/Plugin Filters/Eyecandy 4000/Bevel Boss and use the same settings as before. Selections/Select None.

Step 14:
Making your background white, add a symmetrical 20 pixel border. Select the border with your magic wand. Making your foreground pattern, choose the minimized graphic with the following settings:
Scale = 100, Angle = 50 and floodfill your border. Keeing it selected, go to Blur/Gaussian Blur and apply the same settings. Do not deselect.

Step 15:
Go to Effects/3D Effects/Cutout and apply cutout with the following settings:
Vertical and Horizontal = 2
Opacity = 80
Blur = 20

Reapply the Cutout, only this time change the vertical and horizontal to a minus 2. Selections/Select None.

Step 16:
Making your background your complimentary color again, go to Image/Add Borders and add a Symmetrical 8 border. Select the border with your magic wand, and go to Effects/Plugin Filters/Eyecandy 4000/Bevel Boss and apply the same inner bevel.

Step 17:
Resize for group requirements. Go to Effects/Sharpen/Sharpen.

And there you have your Spider Web Frame. I hope you have enjoyed doing this as much as I have creating it.
